The Air Car - 06-17-2008

An interesting look at the future has an Air Car in the works for transportation being able to hit 110 mph. A French inventor has spent the last 10 years developing the engine that drives the automobile, strictly on air. Let's hope we see some testing for, "Air Motorcycle's" as well. More...

RATES DROPPED AGAIN - 05-02-2008
It's no secret that every aspect of our lives are being touched by higher prices. It doesn't matter who the elected president is going to be, nor how many new popes, kings or queens step up to answer the cry of HIGH prices. No one will be able to fix the mess we are in for. Rasing prices is the norm, the fix for every business.

We would like you to know that today we are lowering, yes LOWERING our prices again on ALL rentals across the board. We hope to earn your business by passing along our savings on motorcycle rentals and guided motorcycle tours.

Now, that's good news in a small way. We know it's not the answer to our world crisis, but if every business in the world chipped a bit off the top, it would certainly help.

Laughlin Run - 04-23-2008
As you may well know, today, is the beginning of the famos "Laughlin Run" in Laughlin, Nevada. Laughlin hangs on the skirts of the Colorado River featuring gambling halls, and hotels all setting next to the river's edge. Each year thousands of motorcycles from various places congregate to the city for a few days, this year, on the dates of April 23-27. Of course this drives up the pricing on motorcycle rentals, called, "price and demand" with the demand for motorcycles comes the demand for a price. You can expect to pay approximately $45 more per day for a rental driving the price close to about $220 per day during the time frame for a "Class A" motorycle.

Vegas Valley Motorcycle Tours doesn't arrange for tours down to the Laughlin area for the Laughlin Run each year due to the past problems that seems to still loom at the event, indicating, that it's not just a few guys on bikes enjoying themselves. Brawls continue between intoxicated motorcyclist each year, thereby resulting in the arrest of individuals. A few years ago the brawls in one of the hotels turned into gun violence between motorcycle groups such as the Mongols and Hells Angles where individuals have been shot to death, featured on the local news for many years.

I happened to be reading an aricle a couple of weeks ago that talked about the ancient Mongols. Interestly enough I was wondering if they chose the name "Mongols" from the distant past - "Mongols" taken from the Mongolian dynasty that ruled from the years of 1279 - 1368. The Mongols from years past were under the leadership of a powerful and vigorous leader named Timuchin or Genghis Khan. According to one source. "Genghis Khan was perhaps one of the greatest military innovators in human history, and his army consisted of perhaps the best-trained horsemen in all of human history. They fought on horseback with incredible efficiency; they could hit targets with a superhuman precision while running at a full gallop. Their speed and efficiency struck terror in their opponents who frequently broke ranks. In addition, Genghis Khan organized his troops into decimal units (one hundred, one thousand, ten thousand), and would send hand signals through the fighting to these decimal units. The result in battle was simply mind-boggling. Genghis Khan could literally move troops around in the heat of battle as easily as he would move chess pieces."

For the modern day Mongols, whether or not they chose their name from this anceint group, who knows, but I think we can see the logic behind the name if they did. Apparently, the only thing that has changed is it's modern day location in the United States and they no longer ride horses.

Anyways, Laughlin is a really small town and not much to do on a bike. From what I've observed, moments of entertainment include drving into parking garages setting off car alarms, and I mean ALOT of car alarms. Now, if your bike has a set of pipes, it's a two fold connection. One, it gives you a sense of what great pipes sound like bellowing in a tunnel. Two, you set off car alarms in a major way. The WHOLE town is car alarms being set off. Ok, ok a bit childish but nevertheless, looks like fun. Big cruisers punch-it-out with their BIG coffee can sized pistons blowing thunder.

Make sure to visit Oatman if you heading to the Laughlin Run - Ride On...!

Arizona Grand Slam Weekend - 03-11-2008

The Day is Finally Here! As you know we have been making preparations for the Grand Slam weekend across Arizona to the Grand Canyon followed by three days of pure joy across some excellent well thought out motorcycle roads. Looks like Saturday around Flagstaff is going to be COLD in the morning. Looking at the weather for this road trip isn't exactly ideal but when a trip is planned across the desert months in advance, it becomes like fishing, sometimes you catch one and sometimes you don't.

Here's the skinny on the upcoming weather - give or take...

Night One: Flagstaff - We will get into Flagstaff late Saturday afternoon with a chance of it being breezy and party cloudy. Given the fact that the night temperature is going to be as low as 26 to 35 degrees we need to have some good warm clothing to start the day off at 8am.

Night Two: Safford - As we head toward Safford on Sunday, day two of the trip we are looking at cloudy conditions with a 10 % chance of showers getting progressively worse as the day goes on with a 30% chance of showers Sunday Night and Monday. This is no doubt going to turn into some snow at one point or another due to the elevations we will be in.

Night Three: Prescott Valley - Heading now east towards home on day three to Prescott Valley we find a 20 % chance of snow with highs at 45 to 51 and lows at 29 to 37.

We are still in the range of a great trip! It's the Journey, not the destination which will be memorable

50 mph Winds Across The Las Vegas Desert - 03-09-2008

If you look at some of the photos of my Triumph 955i you'll notice my windshiled is on the slightl tall side for a sportbike. I trimmed the windshield down 4" - WHY?

50mph wind storm that we got caught in one day made this thing like a sailboat down the freeway.

The Story has it like this: Heading back from the Logon on a Valley of Fire run, we were cruising back on I-15 at about 85 mph, which was still about 10mph slower than what traffic was driving. One of my dear friends Clifton Smith who drives a 2007 Hyabusa warned me of wind that can sometimes push it's way across this stretch of desert from the Apex back into Vegas in the late afternoons. As fate would have it, Ania and I one Saturday afternoon was introduced to this blast, not a gust, more like a wall of wind from the side, completely unexpected. All of a sudden the car in front of us hit this wall and swerved across the road. Well, me being completely unaware of what was happening hit it next and pushed me at close to a 45 degree angle across one full lane of traffic. Anytime I'm riding my head is constantly moving to make myself aware of traffic at all sides, and fortunately for me when this wall of wind hit us, I went across one full lane before I could slow down and re-gain control - thankfully nobody was next to me. I looked in my rear-view mirror and saw Ania in an incredible lean, as she leaned into the wind to re-gain control for herself. All we can say is.... WOW. Wind is one of our biggest enemies going to the Valley of Fire. See the Video
