123 miles - 3 hours or more.
Highway 12 is rated as one of the top 10 ten highways in the United States for motorcycle riding. From Vegas, it's at least 10 hours one way, so try having a comfortable bike. This is our Wilderness Journey
of Southern Utah which we've done many times. Within just a short distance you'll happen upon the HooDoos making the amphitheaters of Bryce Canyon
breath taking and famous. If I had to make a decision of where I wanted to spend 3 days, such as the Grand Canyon
or Bryce, Bryce Canyon would win.
However, Hwy 12 isn't about Bryce, it just happens to be next to the road and Zion Nation Park down Hwy 89. If you kept going on highway 12, it would also take riders towards Monument Valley for the money shots. If you drive a bike from Vegas, plan on 3 days. If you keep going to Monument Valley, it's 4 days. There are a lot of options to squeeze this road in your plans but it IS my favorite ride.
Gas & Motels: Small towns, plenty of services, lots of camping and areas to hike, not many place to string a hammock. Book rooms well in advance on holidays. Some rooms in Torrey go from around $175 a night on holiday weekends. At other times, $30
Roads: Pavement, long sweeping curves, windy, switch backs, good road,
Connections: Hwy 89
, Bryce Canyon
Connections: Monument Valley
Scenery: Steep canyons
, hog backs, tall pines, high desert moutain plateau, granite cliffes
Hazards: Deer, Elk, especially at sunset, single lane, busy on weekends and holidays, black ice
Best Season: Fall, early spring, hot ride (from) Vegas in summer months
Entering Hwy 12 a short distance.
