Ahhhh, Hwy 148
in S. Utah brings about the start of some fine canyon riding to your next road connection. Hwy 148 has 2 entrances from the outside world and is only about 7.6 miles long, about an hour drive.
One Hour? Hwy 148 takes the rider swiftly to the top of Cedar Breaks
at the 10,000 summit on the central part of the road. You can access the road from Hwy 14
out of Cedar City or Hwy Hwy 143
from Parowan. Really
, it only takes 15 minutes unless you stop at Chessmen Ridge at Cedar Breaks. Do stop, it's worth seeing.Hwy 148
connects directly to Cedar Breaks
at an alarming elevation of:Hwy 148
for us is a common connection to either Brian Head or Panguitch. One year during the Empire Canyons tour
with a client from Mexico were met with a road block, which was closed for several months. Hwy 14
had been closed from a little-ole house size boulder rolling down a cliff onto the road. So the story ends with the state of Utah cutting in another fine set of curves for what is otherwise, already a great road. We love Utah! Anyways, we turned around and went back out to i-15 and up to Parowan, towards Brian Head on Hwy 143
then to Cedar Breaks
/ Hwy 14, that we're discussing, where it was good and cold. It took us about 50 miles out of the way but well worth it.
Here's my wife showing me how it's done, moving at some obnoxious speed like warp 7
You're in for a nice surprise the first time your eyes roll over the edge of Cedar Breaks.
